Privacy and security are on the minds of more and more web citizens today. Pushing too hard for information without first building up the trust factor can result in the customer abandoning your site. Certainly you should have in place an Optin box/link/page where you are offering to exchange something of real value to entice your potential customer to give up their name and email address. This opens up the opportunity for your customer to get to know you better. But that alone doesn’t tell you much about them. So how can you obtain more relevant information about the prospect without seeming too pushy or too personal? One way is through the use of surveys. Using sites like SurveyMonkey you can quickly and easily put together a simple survey and ask your prospect to participate. You might want to consider some type of reward for their participation. Just keep the questions generic in nature to put the prospect at ease and keep the initial survey brief (e.g. 10 questions or less). This is just one of several methods where you can start to build your customer profile.
Here’s an example of a very simple survey. Participation is optional.Click here to take survey
