
Clone your customers using targeted marketing for maximum leverage.
In previous posts we've talked about the importance of building your customers' profile, whether it’s using something as simple as an Excel spreadsheet or your lead capture system.
Now we'll explore one way in which you can use their profile in your ongoing marketing efforts. For example – suppose your business is B2C (business to consumer) and in reviewing your database you notice that 6 of your customers are from the same neighborhood. Now you can target that neighborhood and/or surrounding neighborhoods with a message such as “Find out why 6 of your close neighbors prefer…..”. Curiosity and relationship influence are powerful levers in your marketing endeavors.
Suppose 10 of your B2B (business to business) clients are all in the legal profession? Now your target message could be “would you like to know why 10 of your fellow attorneys chose…..”. Whether 1, 10 or 100, use your imagination to target your marketing. In essence you’re cloning your customers using target marketing to target a specific prospect based on a subset of your current customers. The possibilities are limited only by how fully you've developed your customer profile.
